The term ‘UX design’ refers to the process of determining what the experience will be like for users who interact with you online.
UX design involves anticipating moves and responses – even predicting the emotions users will experiences at every stage of their journey.
Increasingly, users will connect with you via using several different devices, such as a tablet, smart phone, or laptop. User experience differs between every device and good UX design software will adapt.

Designing a perfect user experience is less about what you think looks great, and more about what we know works in achieving outcomes.
The first step to the perfect user experience is understanding who you are designing for. Who is interacting with you and who do you want to attract?
You probably already have an idea of what you want users to do: buy your product, sign up to your seminar, or download your e-book. But creating an excellent user experience means digging deeper.
How do you want people to move around the website? What would the ideal user journey look like?
Users shouldn’t think about moving through your site, they should be subtly manoeuvred around by invisible prompters and signposts.
Simplicity and consistency is achieved by the use of universal icons and design elements. For example, nobody thinks twice when they see the disk symbol to save a document – it’s used so frequently they instantly know what it means.
Did you know that every font has a ‘personality’, which brings out different emotions? Size is also an issue in terms of comfort, and can be used to create an information hierarchy and direct the user around the page.
There is also a whole psychology behind how we interact with colours. Different colours bring out specific emotions and reactions and can be used to determine the length of time the user spends on a particular section of your site.
While consistency is critical, contrast colours can be used to grab the user’s attention and draw it in a particular way. Balance is also important, so counter dark with light and vice versa.
Users will abandon their actions when a form becomes too long or frustrating. Forms needs to be short and to the point. You want users in and out before they change their minds.
Remember, sometimes audiences behave in ways the ‘text book’ says they won’t. UX design shouldn’t end when your website or app goes live, it just enters another phase.
Regular tests and analysis software will only improve the UX design and strengthen the relationship between you and your user.
